Top 5 Tanning Oils. A closer look at the glow.

Copper peptides are everywhere in skincare—but what do they actually do? Here is the evidence-aware guide to the ingredient, the routine and the marketing.

Top 5 Tanning Oils. A closer look at the glow.

About this edit: Published by Goldy Glow, with our own Burleigh Bronze featured at number one. This is our editorial selection based on published product information—not an independent wear test or a clinical ranking.

A good comparison starts with the formula and the finish. Do you prefer skincare ingredients, an immediate tint, a coconut scent or a larger bottle? Those details matter more than promises of faster tanning.

Here are our five picks, with a sixth option at the end for anyone who wants developing colour without UV exposure.

Tanning meets skincare.

Burleigh Bronze brings the ingredient thinking of facial skincare into a body-oil ritual. Its Amino-Complex pairs three cosmetic peptides with hydrators, emollients and antioxidant ingredients for a silky, luminous finish.

That is why it leads our edit: the focus extends beyond shine to how skin feels—soft, conditioned and cared for.

01 · AMINO-COMPLEX Three cosmetic peptides A 120 mL face-and-body serum featuring Copper Tripeptide-1.Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 and Acetyl Tetrapeptide-5 form the formula’s peptide complex, selected for its skin-conditioning focus.

02 · HYDRATIONHyaluronic acid + panthenol Sodium hyaluronate, a form of hyaluronic acid, helps support a hydrated skin feel. Panthenol complements the formula’s softness and comfort.

03 · SOFTNESS Squalane + nourishing emollients Squalane, jojoba oil and shea butter bring a conditioning layer to the formula, supporting a smooth, supple after-feel.

04 · THE FINISHLuminous, lightweight care Goldy Glow describes a silky, fast-absorbing feel, with vitamins C and E providing the formula’s antioxidant component.

More than the finishing touch

Think of Burleigh Bronze as the body-care step you choose for its formula as well as its finish. The skincare ingredients are what distinguish its approach in this edit; they do not establish a faster tan or replace sun protection.

Complete the skincare ritual

Use Burleigh Bronze as directed, then shower. Apply Solis afterwards as your moisturiser on clean skin. Oil first, a fresh start in the shower, then your moisturising step. Explore The Signature Pair →

Burleigh Bronze has no SPF and is not sunscreen. Ingredient highlights describe the formula’s skincare focus, not independently verified results for the finished product.

02 · The cacao-tinted option

Bali Body
Cacao Tanning Oil SPF15 Which peptides are in Burleigh Bronze?

120 mLA$59.00No SPF

Bali Body’s Cacao Tanning Oil combines a cacao tint with a blend of grapeseed, coconut and olive oils. The brand describes an immediate bronzed appearance and a cacao scent, making the colour and fragrance part of its appeal.

Vitamin E also features in the formula. This is the option to consider if you enjoy a tinted oil finish rather than a clear body oil. The tint is different from the developing colour of a self-tanner.

What stands out

A compact 100 mL bottle, a chocolate-inspired scent and broad-spectrum SPF15 on the label. Bali Body also describes the product as vegan and cruelty-free.

SPF15 is below Cancer Council’s recommended SPF50 or SPF50+ for sun protection. A tinted finish is not a measure of UV protection.

Sun Bum · 250 mL

03 · The larger-format oil blend

Sun Bum
SPF 15+ Browning Oil What else is inside the formula?

250 mLA$24.99 RRPSPF15+

Sun Bum’s Australian website lists this as SPF 15+ Sunscreen Browning Oil. Its highlighted ingredients include marula, argan, coconut and avocado oils, alongside aloe vera and green tea.

The 250 mL spray bottle shown here is the largest pack in our five-oil shortlist. It makes this a practical comparison for shoppers who prefer a generous bottle and a familiar botanical-oil blend.

What stands out

The emphasis is on moisturising oils in a spray format, with broad-spectrum SPF15 protection. The brand lists it as vegan and cruelty-free.

The listed SPF is lower than Cancer Council’s SPF50/50+ recommendation. Follow the current Australian label; do not use a tanning oil to extend time in the sun.

Carroten · 200 mL

04 · The coconut-scented spray

Carroten
Summer Dreams Intensive Tanning Oil

200 mLA$16.99No labelled SPF

Carroten’s Summer Dreams oil offers a coconut-fragranced spray at the lowest listed price in this edit. The Australian brand page highlights sunflower oil and calendula extract, with carrot and coconut oils also featured in its ingredient story.

For shoppers drawn to a traditional fragranced tanning oil, the familiar spray bottle and tropical scent are the main distinguishing details.

What stands out

A 200 mL pack and a straightforward oil format. We are comparing the non-SPF Summer Dreams product pictured here; similarly named SPF versions should be checked separately.

Carroten states that this product does not protect against UV radiation. The brand also cautions that it may stain fabrics.

Hawaiian Tropic · 236 mL / 8 fl oz

05 · The classic coconut formula

Hawaiian Tropic Dark Tanning Oil

236 mL / 8 fl ozCheck local retailerNo labelled SPF

Hawaiian Tropic’s classic Dark Tanning Oil is the coconut-focused option in this selection. The brand’s indexed product information describes a moisturising oil formula with coconut oil and cocoa butter.

The supplied photo shows the US 8 fl oz / 236 mL bottle, with a flip-top cap and no SPF number. This is the traditional oil version, rather than one of the brand’s SPF-labelled sunscreen products.

What stands out

A familiar coconut-led body-oil format and a generous bottle size. Check the exact local pack and ingredient list before buying, as regional versions can differ.

A current direct-brand price could not be confirmed: the original US product link now redirects to the brand homepage. No price is assumed here.

Bondi Sands · Liquid Gold Self Tanning Dry Oil

BONUS · THE SUNLESS ALTERNATIVE

Bondi Sands Liquid Gold Self Tanning Oil

150 mLA$23.95Self-tanner

Liquid Gold belongs in a different category: it is a self-tanning oil that develops colour without sun exposure. Bondi Sands describes a lightweight, hydrating formula that becomes touch-dry quickly, with no wash-off required.

The coconut-scented product is worth considering if your priority is a golden-looking finish without intentional UV tanning. Follow its application instructions and allow the colour to develop as directed.

Self-tan colour does not provide sun protection. Continue using sunscreen and other protective measures outdoors.

THE DETAILS THAT MATTER

Your questions, answered.

Why is Goldy Glow number one?

This is Goldy Glow’s own editorial edit. We put Burleigh Bronze first because its peptide, hydration and conditioning focus reflects our approach to body care. The position is a brand preference, not a claim that independent testing has found it superior.

Are all tanning oils self-tanners?

No. A body or tanning oil is different from a product formulated to develop colour without UV exposure. Bondi Sands Liquid Gold is the sunless self-tanner included separately in this article.

Is SPF15 enough for everyday Australian sun protection?

Cancer Council recommends broad-spectrum, water-resistant SPF50 or SPF50+. Apply according to the label, reapply at least every two hours and after swimming, sweating or towel-drying, and combine it with other sun-protection measures.

Does Burleigh Bronze contain sunscreen?

No. Burleigh Bronze has no SPF. Its skincare ingredients and luminous finish do not replace sunscreen.

When should I apply Solis?

After using Burleigh Bronze as directed, shower, then apply Solis to clean skin as your moisturiser. This is the after-shower step in The Signature Pair ritual.

Why do some bottles look different online?

Packaging, sizes, ingredients and SPF versions may vary by market. Match the exact product name and current label before purchasing. The photos here show the specific versions discussed.
